The night the Baltimore Ravens beat the New England Patriots, I tuned into my favorite sports talk radio station. I heard the host at the time say that he was sick of the Ray Lewis thing. One person called in to ask why the host did not like Lewis. He said that because he was a 'murderer'. I am sure that the host did not have access to court records to make such an assumption.
A lot people feel some kind of way about Ray Lewis.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
The only crime that Ray Lewis committed that night appears to be that he testified against his friends to get a deal that would keep him out of jail. Also, you heard what Wes Welker’s wife, Anna, said about him:
Proud of my husband and the Pats. By the way, if anyone is bored, please go to Ray Lewis' Wikipedia page. 6 kids 4 wives. Acquitted for murder. Paid a family off. Yay. What a hall of fame player! A true role model!
I wish she would have gotten all of the facts first. Mrs. Welker said something that Lewis’ detractors are steadfast in believing. That Lewis is a phony. What do you think?
Do you think he is a hustler?
Do you think he is a hero/role-model?
Are you sick of the frequent references to God? That does get under the skin of some.
Do you think he is as slick as an Atlanta mega-church pastor? Or do you think that he inspires people?
I am not here to make you change your mind either way. The only thing I ask is that you have to admit that people on both sides have made some good points.
Let’s be real about this. Some love the man. Some hate everything he stands for.
I say this to the Ray Lewis supporters:
Ray Lewis’ past is part of the narrative. I am not saying that every time someone brings up his name, we should be talking about that night in Atlanta. But it is what it is. He was involved in a situation where two people were murdered. That’s a fact.
I say this to the Ray Lewis detractors:
The incident happened 14 years ago. Lewis has kept out of trouble since. Isn’t that what we want for people who get involved in situations like that?? They should learn from their mistakes and move on right? Besides, he’s not playing football anymore after Sunday’s game. Relax
There is one thing that we can all agree on:We all want to see a good game.
