EOC spotlight on: Michael Miner, Chicago Reader 40 year anniversary story
Chicago Reader 40 year anniversary celebration illustration, by Lilli Carre.

On October 1, 2011, the Chicago Reader turned 40 years old. To celebrate, one of EOC's favorite throwback, grizzled, cigar-chomping newspapermen Michael Miner penned this delightful ode to the free weekly's 40 years. Does Miner chomp his cigars? Hell, does he even smoke them? I have no idea. But he is certainly one of the old-timers on the Chicago journalism scene, a holder of the history, and his Reader retrospective is filled with stories and insight on one of Chicago's landmark papers. A good way to start your week.
