The idea to put a casino in Chicago isn't new. The idea to put a casino in the Thompson Center is new, and some are outraged. I can't help but giggle and think what's next?
Chicago has covered this topic extensively over the past few days. Here's what was said:
- NBC CHICAGO: The Thompson Center is the latest of several location ideas, including the old Post Office, Trump Tower, McCormick Place and Block 37 as possible landing places for a Windy City gambling haven.
- THE CHICAGOIST: Of course no casino will come to town unless Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Gov. Pat Quinn can come to some agreement. Mayor Emanuel and Ald. Richard Mell (33rd) are pressuring Gov. Pat Quinn to make a move on the legislation. Emanuel and Quinn have used the press to take jabs at one another.
- THE SUNTIMES: Converting theThompsonCenter into a casino would require the state to empty out government employees. Even so, Quinn did not automatically shoot down the idea.
- THE REDEYE VIA WGN: Quinn did not veto the idea saying decisions about where a new casino should be located is up to the Illinois gaming board.
