Sex Sells: Playboy Returns to Chicago

There’s a lot going on with Groupon... as usual. There is also a woman editor breaking barriers at Chicago Magazine, which is amazing. But some of the most exciting news to hit Chicago today is Playboy. We all know sex sells, and if Playboy is coming back to Chicago, I’m buying.

The old Chicago Playboy  mansion was quite a place, or so I’m told. I’m far too young to have been there, although I have attended a Playboy party or two. People may not know this either, but Hugh Hefner had a pretty serious love affair with the Windy City. His Playboy Club served as a platform for political and cultural moments that were thought provoking and, of course, sexy.

Hef is keeping it old school, but Scott Flanders, CEO of Playboy, is reviving the brand’s focus. Flanders is placing a fresh emphasis on product licensing and Playboy nightclubs.

Now you may be skeptical, but keep in mind: the impact on our economy could be nothing short of stellar. While LA and NYC have no shortage of would-be models, swarms of them could come to the Midwest for their moment in the “spotlight.” Take THAT, Miami! Playboy is a brand known for sexy fun, and to have that back in Chicago would mean our nightlife stock goes up many notches.

Most exciting, though, is to think of the possibility of Rahm and Hef sitting around, discussing tough political matters over scotch and stogies.....in the Chicago Playboy mansion.
