This week the 6th Annual CIMMFest kicks off with more music and movie events than you could possibly imagine! The Chicago International Movies & Music Festival, Chicago’s incarnation of SXSW, returns to Wicker Park, Bucktown and Logan Square Thursday, May 1st - Sunday, May 4th. This year’s fest has 90+ movies from 26 countries, 9 world premieres and 75+ bands, DJs and musical acts. There's something for EVERYONE!
We'll be posting our recommendations of events for each day of the festival. There are so many events to choose from, but here a few that we think would absolutely KICK ASS on a Thursday night!

The quintessential critics' band, Yo La Tengo – singer/guitarist Ira Kaplan, his wife drummer/vocalist Georgia Hubley, and bassist James McNew – explore the extremes of feedback-driven noise rock and sweetly melodic pop, shading their work with equal parts scholarly composure and fannish enthusiasm. Prolific and mercurial, they have ultimately transcended their myriad influences to ensconce themselves as a beloved institution of the indie community.
Thursday, May 1st - 8:30PM-1:00AM - Concord Music Hall (2047 N. Milwaukee, Chicago 60647)
The Chicago Mixtape is an invaluable service that offers a free compilation of the best original Chicago music happening in town each week. Recently celebrating its third anniversary, the Mixtape has solidified its position as an institution prized by fans and bands alike.
Thursday, May 1st - 9:00PM - 1:00AM - The Burlington- (3425 W. Fullerton Ave, Chicago 60647)
