Season 1 of 'Empire' and the complexity of black America

Season 1 of 'Empire' and the complexity of black America
For some it was twelve weeks of nail biting, jaw dropping, “Oh no they didn’t” drama. Yes! Season 1 of ‘Empire’, for me, was a smash success and nothing short of a stroke of genius. However, when I’d go through Facebook news feeds and see conversations about the show, not everyone agreed. That’s to be... Read more »

We are finally having some beautiful weather in Chicago which makes you just want to get out and do something F-U-N! And you know what warm weather in Chicago means: scantily dressed women in crop tops, short shorts and even tinier skirts, sheer dresses, and the always big problem of the dreaded swimsuit selection. Dr. Oz and the amazing S-shaped poop
Dr. Oz and the amazing S-shaped poop. I know, right? Sounds like a story right out of child’s fairy tale,or better yet, an off-Broadway production. Can’t you just see  Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoats standing around examining Dr. Oz’s amazing S-shaped poop? Well, I can because that’s exactly what I did at 6:30 this... Read more »

Criticizing fit moms? Now that IS a shame

Criticizing fit moms? Now that IS a shame
I’ve heard it said that holding on to a grudge is like letting someone live rent free in your head. Elana Anthony

I am a wife and mother blessed to have six daughters who fill my home with love and laughter. My passion is writing and teaching, but most especially inspiring people to live healthy lives in my faith-filled fitness classes. My dream is to have my own faith and fitness TV show where people from all the world collectively join together on our "temple" building project of enjoying optimal health. I am a certified group fitness instructor by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), and earned graduate degrees in Writing from DePaul University, in addition to a degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from the California University of Pennsylvania. The Salvation Army Kroc Center is my church home where I not only teach Adult Sunday school classes, but I also sing on my church's Praise Team alongside my daughters, under the direction of my husband who is our leader. I have seen and experienced the hand of God work and move in my life, and consider it an honor and blessing to be saved to serve.
