"Surviving R. Kelly," Can we separate the man from the music?

"Surviving R. Kelly," Can we separate the man from the music?
As the controversy regarding Lifetime’s docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly” continues, so do our views of his music. I am attempting to write this post in the spirit of being unbiased, knowing full well that is difficult for me to do as I myself am a survivor of abuse by an older man when I was a teenager.... Surviving the R. Kelly Docuseries' Comments on Social Media

Surviving the R. Kelly Docuseries' Comments on Social Media
I wish everybody would just shut up about R. Kelly! I know people are entitled to their freedom of speech, as am I, which is why I am speaking out publicly, for once and for all, about how I was abused by my mother’s boyfriend when I was 14 years old. He was 27. She... Read more »

SCW's "Midwest Mania" is Missing the Punch it Used to Pack

SCW's "Midwest Mania" is Missing the Punch it Used to Pack
Ever since I became introduced to fitness, I looked forward to Midwest Mania, hosted by SCW. I’m so old school that I remember when it was Sara’s City Workout, and I celebrated its progression to SCW which now takes place all across the US. Named after its founder and creator, Sara Kooperman, an attorney turned... Read more »

International Women's Day, #PressforProgress

International Women's Day, #PressforProgress
Today is International Women’s Day, a day we #PressforProgress. As I read stories of inspiring women who are trailblazers an hold a variety of positions as successful business owners, managers, and entrepreneurs– as well as a host of other responsibilities–I am inspired by our progress and potential, and yet eerily reminded of my untimely termination... Making sense of the senseless: The Texas church shooting massacre

Making sense of the senseless: The Texas church shooting massacre
Are there any words to make sense of the senseless tragedy that occurred in Texas? Why can’t people go to church in peace? Why are people so angry and hate-filled that they feel compelled to shoot up a church and take the lives of peaceful worshipers on a Sunday morning which was once seen as... Read more »

Like any lively mom with a job, kids, and a side hustle as an entrepreneur, I was busy on Halloween. From getting my twin 8-yr. old daughters to school on time humming with energy and enthusiasm and costumes in tow, to teaching my Aqua Aerobics class, doing my own workout, and caring for my mom... Are you killing yourself with the food you are eating?

Are you killing yourself with the food you are eating?
About six weeks ago, I made a decision to stop eating all meat and diary products, much to the surprise of everyone who knows me, and even to myself! You can read how that happened here.   This decision had been like a tea pot simmering for years, until finally the steam poured forth, the whistle... Read more »

9/21, my personal day of terror I'll never forget

9/21, my personal day of terror I'll never forget
While the world remembers the tragedy of 9/11, for me, my personal day of terror is 9/21. I’ll never forget this day because it is a day I was beaten so badly while pregnant, that one month later on 10/21, my daughter was born with a black eye, just like the one I had. Long... Read more »

When blogging gets scary: my bout with the bullies who plagiarized my work

When blogging gets scary: my bout with the bullies who plagiarized my work
I enjoy blogging and often criticize myself for not blogging often and frequently enough. Between managing my household and family of daughters plus my husband and my mom who recently moved in with us, in addition to being a fitness instructor and a network marketer, I often lament about there not being enough hours in... Joliet baby found stuffed in the couch of her home

Joliet baby found stuffed in the couch of her home
This story about Semaj Crosby is one of a gazillion reasons I hate watching the news.  I sit there watching, mortified and stupefied by the outcome of many tragic stories just like this one about the Joliet baby found today.  Then without even realizing it or trying, I begin to judge the people involved because you can’t... Elana Anthony

I am a wife and mother blessed to have six daughters who fill my home with love and laughter. My passion is writing and teaching, but most especially inspiring people to live healthy lives in my faith-filled fitness classes. My dream is to have my own faith and fitness TV show where people from all the world collectively join together on our "temple" building project of enjoying optimal health. I am a certified group fitness instructor by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), and earned graduate degrees in Writing from DePaul University, in addition to a degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from the California University of Pennsylvania. I have seen and experienced the hand of God work and move in my life, and consider it an honor and blessing to be saved to serve.
