Half-dressed women in the gym: What's that really about?

Half-dressed women in the gym: What's that really about?
Recently as I was about to leave the gym, I saw something that really got me to thinking. I came home that evening and posted the following to my Facebook page: Tonight a young rebellious type got mad when told by management that he needed to put on his shirt in the gym. Irritated and... Modesty: The underrated fashion look for Spring

Modesty: The underrated fashion look for Spring
It’s getting warm in Chicago–finally. We wait so long and patiently for nice weather that when it comes we rejoice like Evilene’s freed minions after her death in The Wiz. “Can’t you feel a brand new day?!?!” Oh how we celebrate! But there are some downsides to warmer weather for Chicagoans. Unfortunately for us, this... Read more »

SNL's 'Heroin AM' skit strikes a nerve with former users

Thumbnail image for 'SNL's 'Heroin AM' skit strikes a nerve with former users'
I saw on the news that heroin addicts were outraged by SNL’s “Heroin AM” skit. Former users thought the skit was offensive, rude, derogatory, and just plain wrong. Proponents of the show advocate that comedy is comedy and there’s no topic that’s off limits. I happen to agree with them. Saturday Night Live is a... Read more »

Yoga pants and bra tops, the gym is a professional work place too

Yoga pants and bra tops, the gym is a professional work place too
Almost every day of the week I am in and out of fitness facilities all over the city of Chicago. I see people in all shapes and sizes doing workouts that motivate me to take mine up several notches, and others that I think the people are either trying to kill themselves or their workout... Whether plus-size or petite, if you're losing weight, read this!

Whether plus-size or petite, if you're losing weight, read this!
I have been in the fitness industry for over ten years which is nothing but the bat of an eye for many of my colleagues and mentors who are trainers, instructors, and fitness directors. I still vividly remember the 80’s mid-morning TV show, “20 Minute Workout” and how I loved dancing along with them. Back... Read more »

5 habits I plan to never break

5 habits I plan to never break
This year will be twenty years since I graduated from DePaul University with a degree in English and Communications. I had no idea exactly what I planned to do with my degree, but I knew I wanted to be wildly successful. By my own estimation of comparing my piddly income versus my student loan debt,... Read more »

Fitness instructors and personal trainers, don't make this mistake in the gym

Fitness instructors and personal trainers, don't make this mistake in the gym
You think no one is watching and that it all seems innocent. But it’s obvious to everyone what’s going on by the way you you are “helping” your friend with their workout. You are making a cardinal mistake that could be seriously damage your career.  You’re training a client “under the table” in the gym.... Read more »

The devil wears Prada...and gym shoes!

The devil wears Prada...and gym shoes!
In the movie “The Devil Wears Prada” Meryl Streep portrayed the boss from hell who judged her employees based purely on  what they looked like. As the editor-in-chief of a high fashion magazine, that seemed only fair–except judging people on appearance leaves no room for their talent or knowledge, which was the case for Andy... Read more »

The 14th Annual Fall Fest presented by the Village of Homewood: A place where dreams come true

The 14th Annual Fall Fest presented by the Village of Homewood: A place where dreams come true
Ever watched a holiday program and dreamed you could live in a place like the one you see on TV? The setting seems so picture perfect…a place where the people are friendly, the community is diverse, and they have parties with singing and dancing where everyone comes out to enjoy themselves, regardless of age, color,... Europe is beautiful, but the people? Not so much...
Europeans.  They’re rude and impolite. They chain smoke cigarettes, and they somehow missed that deodorant is actually a part of the bathing and grooming process. I know this sounds terrible and that I’m probably going to get an onslaught of vicious comments from people who find my remarks degrading and insulting, and I get that,... Read more »

    Elana Anthony

I am a wife and mother blessed to have six daughters who fill my home with love and laughter. My passion is writing and teaching, but most especially inspiring people to live healthy lives in my faith-filled fitness classes. My dream is to have my own faith and fitness TV show where people from all the world collectively join together on our "temple" building project of enjoying optimal health. I am a certified group fitness instructor by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), and earned graduate degrees in Writing from DePaul University, in addition to a degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from the California University of Pennsylvania. The Salvation Army Kroc Center is my church home where I not only teach Adult Sunday school classes, but I also sing on my church's Praise Team alongside my daughters, under the direction of my husband who is our leader. I have seen and experienced the hand of God work and move in my life, and consider it an honor and blessing to be saved to serve.
