"Surviving R. Kelly," Can we separate the man from the music?

"Surviving R. Kelly," Can we separate the man from the music?
As the controversy regarding Lifetime’s docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly” continues, so do our views of his music. I am attempting to write this post in the spirit of being unbiased, knowing full well that is difficult for me to do as I myself am a survivor of abuse by an older man when I was a teenager.... Surviving the R. Kelly Docuseries' Comments on Social Media

Surviving the R. Kelly Docuseries' Comments on Social Media
I wish everybody would just shut up about R. Kelly! I know people are entitled to their freedom of speech, as am I, which is why I am speaking out publicly, for once and for all, about how I was abused by my mother’s boyfriend when I was 14 years old. He was 27. She... Read more »

Parenting is tough in today's day and age

Parenting is tough in today's day and age
Parenting is not like it used to be. You didn’t have to worry about your kids having access to pornography and explicit music with just a few click strokes on a phone or computer.  This is a new day and age and quite frankly I don’t like it. As a mother with three sets of... Read more »

Rock-Tober! Challenging Every Area of My Life During October

Rock-Tober! Challenging Every Area of My Life During October
It’s the first day of the last quarter of 2018 and I refuse to end this year the way I began.  Instead of the  looming despair and agony I felt a few months back when I turned 50, as if I was running out of time to create my best life–this month–this awesome month of... Read more »

The Agony of Entrepreneurship

The Agony of Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship. You can read books on it. You can go to seminars about it. You can pursue it. But know this: Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. Why do we do it? Did you know that the pursuit of entrepreneurship means that you’re willing (and crazy enough) to work 80 hours for yourself... Read more »

5 things you must do when you're under pressure

5 things you must do when you're under pressure
Pressure. We all get it. We’ve all had it. None of us wants it, but we can all learn from it–except when you’re under it, you don’t care that diamonds are formed by pressure or that pearls are produced from irritating sand pressurizing that oyster. “Who cares?!?!,” barks the person under pressure. I just want... Read more »

Never say never: One week back to teaching for Chicago Public Schools

Never say never: One week back to teaching for Chicago Public Schools
You’ve heard it said several times, but it doesn’t pack the same punch until you experience it for yourself: “Never say never.” These are the sentiments I’d spoken about teaching elementary phys ed and most certainly, I thought I knew like I knew my name, I’d NEVER teaching kindergarten gym again! Yes friends, it’s true:... Read more »

The #metoo movement and Black history month, my story

The #metoo movement and Black history month, my story
I have been silent, waiting on the right day and time to speak out and decided today, enough is enough. In honor of the first day of Black History Month, today I break my silence. There’s so much I want to say about this but still stifled because all of my legal ducks are not... Read more »

The origin of saggin' pants disgusts me

The origin of saggin' pants disgusts me
I thought I knew the origin of saggin’ pants until I came across this article my cousin posted on his Facebook timeline. I usually don’t click off and read stuff like this just because I get tired of being angry and mortified by the ignorance of youth.  Maya Angelou encouraged us that “when we know... Read more »

Forty plus days as a vegan, here's what I've learned

Forty plus days as a vegan, here's what I've learned
Tuesday, September 12th, my life completely changed.  It was my first time going to The Primal Cut restaurant in Tinley Park and like any good carnivore, I ordered their evening special which was a big ole huge hunk of beef. They explained that it’d been cured for over forty days and it was crusted with... Read more »

    Elana Anthony

I am a wife and mother blessed to have six daughters who fill my home with love and laughter. My passion is writing and teaching, but most especially inspiring people to live healthy lives in my faith-filled fitness classes. My dream is to have my own faith and fitness TV show where people from all the world collectively join together on our "temple" building project of enjoying optimal health. I am a certified group fitness instructor by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), and earned graduate degrees in Writing from DePaul University, in addition to a degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from the California University of Pennsylvania. I have seen and experienced the hand of God work and move in my life, and consider it an honor and blessing to be saved to serve.
