The only Pope I'm excited to see this week is named Olivia

The only Pope I'm excited to see this week is named Olivia
I guess it’s clear to see that I am not Catholic, and for that simple reason alone, there is absolutely nothing exciting about the Pope’s visit to America for me. But I would like to be as overjoyed as everyone else I see on news who are preparing for his visit. College campuses, schools, and... Read more »

Europe is beautiful, but the people? Not so much...

Europe is beautiful, but the people? Not so much...
Europeans.  They’re rude and impolite. They chain smoke cigarettes, and they somehow missed that deodorant is actually a part of the bathing and grooming process. I know this sounds terrible and that I’m probably going to get an onslaught of vicious comments from people who find my remarks degrading and insulting, and I get that,... Read more »

'R & B Diva' Angie Stone's arrest: Victim or Victor? What do YOU think?

'R & B Diva' Angie Stone's arrest: Victim or Victor? What do YOU think?
It’s been all over social media about how Grammy-nominated singer Angie Stone was arrested Monday in Georgia for assaulting her 30-yr. old daughter.  In case you haven’t heard, Stone, who was  recently one of the singers on TV One’s popular reality show “R & B Divas: Atlanta”, was arrested after she and her daughter had a... 50 years since Selma, apology to Dr. King

50 years since Selma, apology to Dr. King
Well, it’s been 50 years since that pivotal moment in history. Fifty years since “Bloody Sunday.” And all I feel compelled to do is apologize. I would like to say I apologize on behalf of all blacks, but I’d be lying if I said that, not because of my regret, but because all blacks don’t... Read more »

'American Sniper' actor Bradley Cooper gives me hope

'American Sniper' actor Bradley Cooper gives me hope
I saw “American Sniper” this weekend. Say what you want about how it either glorifies or minimizes the lives and sacrifices of military servicemen. That’s debatable, but one thing I think we can agree is that Bradley Cooper shows he is deserving of this year’s Oscar nomination–and may in fact, walk away with it this... Read more »

Would you want your child given a "Fifty Shades of Grey" activity at school?

Would you want your child given a "Fifty Shades of Grey" activity at school?
It’s hard to believe, but it’s true. Children in a Pennsylvania middle school were given a word search puzzle from the believed to be weekend box office hit “Fifty Shades of Grey.”  Words like “submissive,” “spanking,” “bondage,” and “leather cuffs,” are just a few of the words they were to find. What was this teacher... Read more »

What to do about Kanye? Somebody's gotta stop him!

What to do about Kanye? Somebody's gotta stop him!
Kanye struck again at this year’s Grammys. And just as airports, schools, and courthouses have beefed up security from psychos, so too must the Grammys. Otherwise, Kanye is certain to storm the stage when things don’t go his way. My fellow ChicagoNow blogger, Music Mom has some great suggestions in her post “Solving the Kanye-Grammy Problem”,... It's black history month, and I can't help but wonder, would our ancestors be proud?

It's black history month, and I can't help but wonder, would our ancestors be proud?
This past weekend’s awards shows really put a lot on my mind. In one weekend, we had the 46th Annual NAACP awards and the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. Call me a lame, but I didn’t watch the Grammys. My four daughters did though. And I could hear them cheering and singing along with today’s music icons.... Read more »

Katy Perry is the real MVP of Super Bowl 49!

Katy Perry is the real MVP of Super Bowl 49!
Okay, I’ll admit it. I’m one of those people who had no clue who was playing in the Super Bowl. If it’s not a Chicago team, I’m just not interested. And even then, I’m really not in to it; I’m just happy if my husband’s happy. Needless to say, the way the Bears played this... Read more »

Fox TV's "Empire" Creates Controversy in Black Community

Fox TV's "Empire" Creates Controversy in Black Community
Love it or hate it, but Fox has struck a chord in the Black community with its new hit series “Empire”.  And is it any wonder, since the show is centered around the chaotic and controversial world of Hip Hop?  Created by the infamous Lee Daniels of “The Butler”, “Precious”, and “Monsters Ball”, Daniels has... Elana Anthony

I am a wife and mother blessed to have six daughters who fill my home with love and laughter. My passion is writing and teaching, but most especially inspiring people to live healthy lives in my faith-filled fitness classes. My dream is to have my own faith and fitness TV show where people from all the world collectively join together on our "temple" building project of enjoying optimal health. I am a certified group fitness instructor by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), and earned graduate degrees in Writing from DePaul University, in addition to a degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from the California University of Pennsylvania. I have seen and experienced the hand of God work and move in my life, and consider it an honor and blessing to be saved to serve.
