I have been silent, waiting on the right day and time to speak out and decided today, enough is enough. In honor of the first day of Black History Month, today I break my silence.
There's so much I want to say about this but still stifled because all of my legal ducks are not quite in a row, but I am lining them up. It's one thing to read about the stories of other women, but it certainly feels different to experience it firsthand. I felt so strangled by the pain and unexpected punishment and separation I got from peers who I thought would support me that I couldn't even bring myself to blog at all, so much so, I haven't blogged about ANYTHING at all this year.
But not on today. Not this month. Today I speak, if for no other reason than to say:
I am allowing the spirit of Sojourner Truth to operate through me by putting out her question to the Universe,
"Ain't I a Woman?"
which I know the answer to that question is a resounding:
"YES, I AM!"
To all my fellow sisters who have endured corruption and injustice in the workplace, how powerful must our God be to have our movement unified, supported, and placed in plain sight for all the world to see that we are not to be effed with! Your dirty acts done in secret will be revealed and you will pay for what you have done. You could have been influential, supportive, and at baseline, ethical and professional, but instead you chose to use your power to harass, demote, harass, suspend, fire, and terminate women who would not acquiesce to your unwelcome advances. Isn't it interesting that many of these men who claim their innocence attempt to force women into signing non-disclosure agreements? If there was nothing said or done, why the need for the legally binding agreement to force us into silence?
I will have my moment to speak my truth. I will move beyond the pain of this experience. I will share my story in its entirety. But until then, I will let the powerful energy of my ancestors bless me just as surely as that bright northern star led Harriet Tubman to guide others to freedom. I will be sustained by the loving energy of Universe to direct me to every resource I need.
I'm not thrilled that it is in fact--
but I do take heart knowing that everything the enemy meant for my harm is working for my good, because you know what? Vindication is coming for
