Apparently it's William Shakespeare's birthday today, April 23. If he were alive today, he would be 450 years old.
Although I am a fellow April baby, I am not 450 years old. I do however share in Shakespeare's love of tragedy and comedy. And lucky me, in honor of the famous playwright's birthday, the Joffrey Ballet is offering tickets to its ballet performance of Romeo and Juliet for 23% off the normal ticket price.
If that isn't reason to celebrate, I suppose 450 years is.
The Joffrey describes the show as follows:
This contemporary rendition of the classic Shakespearean tale is set in Italy against a striking multimedia backdrop which depicts three different political eras of the 20th century. Throughout each time period, the timeless tale of love and loss unfolds to Prokofiev’s formidably dramatic score. Bravura dancing, touching lyricism and epic storytelling unite in this rendering of ill-fated true love.
The show runs from April 30 - May 11 at Auditorium Theatre. To get the discount, use the code ROMEO. Find more info at www.joffrey.org
