More Pole Dancing: S Factor

Okay ChicagoNow readers, last week the nationwide pole dancing fitness studio S Factor had a deal on Living Social for Chitown, and this week the creator of this fitness craze, Sheila Kelley, is coming to town. I'm meeting with her tomorrow, and I'm curious to see what she has to say about this trend that one of my fave lady comedians, Chelsea Handler, dubbed "the hottest new celebrity thing." Shelia trained Teri Hatcher for her sultry (but silly because its Susan Delfino) stripping scene on Desperate Housewives, and she even got Martha Stewart doing hip rolls and seducing her talk show audience on a pole. (See Susan's dance here!)

It doesn't hurt that Sheila is an actress herself, most recently on Lost as a flight attendant named Zoe. I've never seen an episode of Lost (I know, I know, best show ever, blah blah blah), so I'm more interested in how her studios supposedly help empower women and accentuate the "S" of a woman's body shape (hence the S Factor name.) Have questions for Sheila? Email me here!

What do you guys think? Is pole dancing a workout? Is it a real form of dance?

  • Wow. Can't believe this posting didn't have commments flowing down the bottom of the page. Everyone from Nelly ("Hot In Herre") to TV shows mention pole dancing. My wife even shared that there are classes in Las Vegas. I guess what happens in Vegas really does stay in Vegas! :-D

Seriously, the athleticism it must take to "pole dance" must qualify it as an exercise, though it has obvious ulterior benefits.
