Taking a break from dishing on relationships, I had the chance to catch up with Josh Law, lead singer of the indie rock group It Is What It Is days before their December 1st show at Reggie’s Rock Club.
Josh gave me an inside look into what makes It Is What It Is tick. Topics of our chat ranged from how the group was formed, to what they are up to now.
Comprised of six members; Josh Law (Vocals), Michael G. (Guitar), Joe Dorf (Drums), Matt "Show Stack" (Guitar, Keys, Vocal), Young Nam (Keys) and Mike Prau (Bass), It Is What It Is has been making music since 2002. The original members of It Is What It Is met in college. They had “never been in a band” but wanted to create good music. Constantly “evolving” over the years, they pride themselves on changing the course of how we perceive music to be. With thought provoking lyrics that also promote “having a good time”, It Is What It Is attempting to “change people in small steps and big steps”.
Josh describes the music for It Is What It Is as a cross between “Coldplay and Lady Gaga”, but instead of being bubble gum pop, It Is What It Is has a creative edge to their music.
In their song “Lime and Salt”, Josh takes me on a journey behind the lyrics. How meeting someone that could turn out to be the “greatest connection” can lead to a blank stare and boredom. “Lime and Salt” is destined to become a cult favorite among those who can relate to the message. Look for It Is What It is to play “Lime and Salt” and more on December 1st, doors open at 9:00 pm.

for it, Josh digs further into “Lime and Salt”. He also dishes on an
interesting story about a young man in a banana suit.
