More about Eri-thon: A Running Blogger Survey

Kelly from Kelly the Culinarian invited running bloggers to answer a few questions about their training, runs, and races so we could all get to know one another a little better.

Since this week has brought many of us together as a community I think it's only right that we share more about ourselves.

Best Run Ever

The best run I've ever had was my very first 18 miler back in 2010 when I was training for the Chicago Marathon. The weather was perfect, my fueling was spot-on, and I finished that run feeling super strong. I could have run the entire marathon that day, I'm sure of it.

The best race I've ever had, though, was the 2011 Milwaukee Marathon.

I finished that race feeling fantastic and I took almost 45 minutes off my first marathon time. Plus, I got to run it with my best friend. What more could I ask for?

Three Words that Describe My Running

Motivation. Experiential. Friendly.

My Go-To Running Outfit

Ideal = Tight shorts (some may call them booty shorts) and a v-neck or scoopneck tank top. I'll swap the shorts for capris and the tank for a t-shirt (and sometimes arm warmers) in the early spring and late fall. In the dead of winter I have one pair of tights that I love and a teal jacket I wear with everything.snow_fun_run_2011

I also have to wear something on my head. Whether it's a fleece headband in the winter or a hat or visor the rest of the year. I hate when I have hair stuck to my sweaty face or sweat running in my eyes. However, I recently left my running hat in Phoenix at a hotel so I'll be busting out a visor until I can replace it.

Quirky Habit While Running

Looking at my reflection when I pass building windows. I'm checking out my form. Yeah.

Morning, Mid-day, or Evening

I much prefer running in the evening. But I don't mind mid-day if I don't have any afternoon meetings. And mornings only happen on weekends or when I can convince someone to meet me before work.

I Won’t Run Outside When It’s...

Lightening. Or over 100 with the heat index. That's really it. I kind of wussed out a lot this winter but typically if I can find someone who will run with me in the current conditions, I'll go. I prefer not to run in the dark by myself but will definitely do it with a friend or a running group!

Worst Injury – And How I Got Over It

I currently have a left hip issue that has been diagnosed as several things including a labral tear, femoral acetabular impingement (also known as FAI), and a myriad of other options depending on what type of doctor or therapist I'm seeing. Basically, I'm not "over" it, but as long as I avoid certain activities, do a lot of stretching and strengthening, and slow down my running a bit, I'm fine. It took me awhile to get over the fact that I might have to stop chasing personal time records, but I'm okay with it now.

I Felt Most Like a Badass Runner When...

A running coach told me I must have run in high school or college because my running form was so good. I started running at the age of 27 so, yeah, that was pretty cool.

Running Goal for 2013

Finish the Illinois Marathon on April 27th and then run whatever other races I want to do for fun.

Next Race Is...

Technically it's the Presence Covenant Medical Center Illinois 5K which is the night before the Illinois Marathon. Yes, I'm running a 5K the night before. It's my pre-race shakeout run!
