I <3 U...ok, what can I say? Honestly, I didn't expect this show to do much for me and I'm not embarrassed to say that. I was not impressed by the title (it didn't say much) so I had little info to go on and attended the show on it's last performance date, with an open mind and hoping for the best.
I had only heard very little about the show. BUT I love comedy and when I sat down and the first sketch began, that was all it took. I was totally captivated -- even through sketch comedy, they had me! In the very beginning, the show had me waiting for what was next on the edge of my seat and through my bursts of laughter. I was immediately hooked!
I love comedy and all forms of it. I appreciate the little, local comedians of our great city. WE as Chicagoans KNOW the best of the best have crossed our little stages and have gone on to become enormous legends in comedy so I am so happy say, I LOVED I <3 U.
It immediately grabbed my interest, went through parts of my personal love life on stage right in front of a sold out audience, all while it poked fun at other not-so-far-fetched situations. It was a TRUE TO LIFE performance and a pleasure to watch.
I <3 U is a small local production performed at the Chicago Center for Performing Arts this past month. It consists of 5 people; 3 girls and 2 boys. You would never know that some performers were first timers and others have performed for years. Stephanie Leigh Rose, Sarra Jahedi, Maritza Cabrera, Miguel Morales, and Alonzo Alcaraz, each in their own, gave the audience a believable, physical, actual event influenced, and adorable performance, that as show goers put it best, it was a "TRUE DAT" performance. I look forward to what's next for this talented group of performers. Next time it comes around, I <3 U it shouldn't be missed.
