The 8th Annual Fashion Focus Chicago 2012

Last Week It was all about three words: Fashion. Focus. Chicago

Started in 2004, Fashion Focus Chicago Celebrates Local Fashion Designers & Artists like no other place in the world! Chicago is home to more than 400 designers and 300 independent boutiques. There is no other place with such a mecca of talent that is supported upon such a divine platform.

Kicking off Fashion Focus Chicago was “Night at The Museum” hosted by Shari Duffy. A Fashion Take on her famed “Ladies Night Chicago” Events. The event held at The Peggy Notebaert Museum complete with snakes, live opera & Fashion Wars.

 

Also kicking off Fashion Focus Chicago on Monday: Dress Code held at the Chicago Cultural Center featured Chicago’s Fashion Design Schools Emerging talent from: Columbia College Chicago, The Illinois of Art Institute of Art-Chicago and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Tuesday October 16, 2012 The Immaculate One by Masion De La Cour held at the Murphy Auditorium was famed as The Dramatic Fashion Event at Fashion Focus Chicago.

Next Fashion Chicago presented by Mandel Productions along with Marco Foster boasts it’s second year at the Germania Place hosted by Candace Jordan & Marcus Riley featuring designs from: Akira, CleonsClothing Co, Cort Tran, Contessa Bottega, Frayley Le, Gary Gonzalez, Mark Roscoe Designs, Meekis, Mira Couture, Sahar Dada, Studio Alade and Just Human. Portions of the proceeds benefited PAWS Chicago and the guest list included all the Who's Who In Chicago.

To close out the events Tuesday at The Blackstone Hotel: Fashion Follows Interiors-A Mad Men Inspired Event Presented by Collins Designs & Co. & Laura Elvis Productions featured twenty selected Chicago designers that had to create a 60’s Mad Men inspired designs, guests chose the winner which was Audra Elizabeth Designs!

 

Wednesday Night was all about The Chicago Fashion Incubator presented by Macy's! The kick-off headlining show at Millennium Park with current CFI (Chicago Fashion Incubator) Designer's In Residence: Black Nation Apparel, Sarah Church, Elizabeth Smith Designs, RFD by Rachel Frank, Christina Karin, & Lagi Nadeau. Alumni featured designers: Zamrie, Anna Hovet, C/FAN, Crystal B Designs, Modahnik, Cettina,GIDI & Miriam Cecilia. The show never disappoints and was such an amazing experience to see some fresh designers with designs that clearly were runway-worthy.

Thursday October 18, 2012 : Mario Tricoco and Vitiaminwater Presented: “Fashion Takes Flight” at Millennium Park. This Fashion Platform featured well respected and known designers known locally & Internationally: Imaginary People, C. Dahlstedt, J. Cheikh, Shelby Steiner & AZZA.

Five ladies also competed to win a modeling contract in Mario Make Me A Model Contest with a finale walk: Caroline for Imaginary People, Olivia for C. Dahlstedt, Laura for J. Cheikh, Birgit for Shelby Steiner & Mana for AZZA. Mario Tricoci arrived on stage and received an uproarious applause as he congratulated all the ladies and announced the winner: Caroline Mazurek.

Friday 3rd Annual Soiree Chicago held at the Chicago Cultural Center featuring Chicago designers Thierry Roger and Jewelry designer Ellie Thompson. Debuting their new exquisite collections.

Closing Fashion Focus Chicago Runway shows at Millennium Park with a Sparkle: “The Art of Fashion” 2012 presented by Style Chicago on Friday October 19, 2012. Featured Chicago’s most celebrated designers locally & internationally: Barbara Bates, Borris Powell, Eva Pazola, Lara Miller, Michael Alan Stein, Michelle Tan, Nade Baer, RUCH, Shalini & SWABY. The show was a delight like no other, bringing a different distinct mood to each designers Spring/Summer 13’ Collections. Without a doubt this was my personal favorite of Fashion Focus Chicago. Brava Style Chicago for producing an exceptional production!!

Saturday October 20, 2012 Style Chicago by Fashion Chicago featured shopping with the designers featured throughout the week. Over 50 designers under a very stylish tent at Millennium Park-Chase Promenade North. This event I attended yearly and always find a treasure or two from a local designer. The event culminates this years theme of Fashion Focus Chicago: "You saw it on the runway, now buy it!"

The Red Carpet Concierge Fashion Awards 2012 held at the Saloon Steakhouse featured host “Gloria The Hat” & Siriam Parthasaranthy. With Fashion Shows & Awards as the highlight of this fabulous event.

Finally culminating Fashion Focus Chicago-Sunday October 21, 2012 was Industry Day held at the Chicago Cultural Center featuring classes for every profession in the Fashion Industry. A memorable moment at Industry Day was an excellent quote from Jesse Garza & Joe Lupo {Visual Therapy VT} ~” Don’t be afraid to fail. It’s the only way to guarantee success!

The Closing Fashion Show of Fashion Focus Chicago was Anna FongQueen of Hearts” held at the Radission Blu Hotel. Anna, a Columbia College of Chicago Alumni debuted her S/S 13 Collection. Drawing Inspiration from the Victorian Ages. Featuring a collection of detailed lace gowns in black, whites & reds.

Fashion Focus Chicago is a week long celebration like none other...Celebrating all local talent, encouraging our own local economy. Respective cities take note; Chicago truly Does It Like No Other!
