What I Learned in 2012

The year is over and a new start has begun. I think it is important to take time to self-reflect on what we've learned over the course of one year. 2012 was an exciting year, a challenging year, and was filled with mini lessons.

Here are some things I learned in 2012:

  • Big career decisions can be made within the first 5 seconds of your thoughts
  • Don't ever be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone, as this is where all of the exciting things await
  • It is okay to say no
  • Try to find something positive out of every negative situation
  • Celebrate your achievements, all of your achievements, as small as they may be
  • Don't be afraid to reach out to someone who is considered higher than you at work
  • Keep giving to others in different ways, for no other reason than to do good in the world
  • Live your life in gratitude, be grateful to feel the sun, hear the wind, and walk around the block
  • Find humor in everything
  • Realize that everything that comes your way is there for a reason, and is as it should be
  • Take risks
  • You will never get back this moment, this time and when the feeling is good, truly see and value it
  • Take care of yourself so you can take care of others
  • Keep going, no matter how many times you fall
  • Reach out to family and friends when you need them
  • Try and live a stress free life by doing things you love, and make time for those things
  • Always tell those you love that you love them
  • For every no, there will eventually be a yes, don't give up
  • If you have a child, say 'I love you' every single day
  • You are not defined by your job, you define who you are
  • Stay positive and share that energy, as it is contagious

Happy New Year!
