Allergy Free Lincoln Square Lunches

Allergy Free Lincoln Square Lunches
Over the Halloween weekend I was too busy to cook so I opted to try out some healthy take-out. Plus I love supporting local businesses. There is something about Lincoln Square coffee shop friendliness that is just right on. They ooze cool without wearing it like a weapon as so many hipster cafes do. Drew’s... Read more »

Geja’s Cafe: Romantic, Local, Vegetarian and Gluten-Free
You wouldn’t think of a fondue restaurant as a place that might have allergy-free options but thankfully Geja’s Cafe does. The staff is very accustomed to serving gluten-free diners. Although Gejas does advise that diners mention their dietary restriction upon making the reservation or when first seated. Vegetarian (but not vegan) diners can savor cheese... Read more »

Cleansing Confessions

Cleansing Confessions
I’m starting a 28-day cleanse later this month. I’m sort of acting as a guinea pig. If it goes well (maybe “well” isn’t the right word but is effective) I will be teaching this program with Dr. Castillo of Alliance Chiropractic. Fall is an excellent time to cleanse. There are no more festivals, BBQs and all... Read more »

Healthy Tips for Rock N'Roll People

Coconut water is no stranger to EEC because it is so hydrating, low in carbs and sugar, and is great for skin. Plus it's much better for you the classic hydration remedy Pedialyte.
What do I mean by rock n’ roll people? People who love to party. I love to party. I just hate the aftermath. I believe in partying smarter not harder. For those about to rock here are a few of my tips:

When You're a Foodie With Food Poisoning

I had a different post in mind for today’s blog but I’m recovering from food poisoning. I will keep the gory details to myself. Being really sick can sure make you humble. Now that I’m recovering I’m so grateful for every little bite of solid food, every breath and every step. Right now I’m gaining... Read more »

Fish Bar

I’ve been hearing a lot about Fish Bar lately. It has received some good feedback via Yelp. I’ve always loved seafood being that lighter proteins agree with me. I’ve often thought I should write a book called “The Mermaid Diet”. If I could get myself to avoid toxins and eat nothing but vegetables of both... Read more »

Tips for Chicago Dudes

When there's no time to cook pick up healthy food to go. A few of my favorite options include Whole Foods hot and cold bar (the North Clybourn location is my favorite). Even fast food restaurants have salads. Just upgrade with your own dressing.
While many of my readers are women who are very motivated I would like to extend an olive branch (or “sassage” link) out to the average Chicago Dude who wants to be healthier but doesn’t know how. Here you go, da tips:

The Iodine Blog

I've been taking this supplement for years and it sure does boost my metabolism. Thorne Research is a high quality brand as well which was recommended to me by my Naturopath. I recommend talking to a professional before taking supplements.
Iodine has been in the news a lot lately because of the devasting tsunami in Japan. First of all, Iodine is a trace mineral required by the body for the synthesis of the thyroid hormones, thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). I’m hypothyroid and I’ve been supplementing with Thorne Research’s Iodine/Tyrosine combo for years. I guess... Read more »

Alleviating Boredom in the Body Builder Diet

Parmesan Cheese does add flavor but nutritional yeast flakes are also known as "vegan parmesan cheese" and they deliver lots of B vitamins with fewer calories.
Spring is coming up and I’m sure for many that means competition season. Of course, your version of “competition season” could mean just sitting by the pool in your fab bikini. Many will begin detox programs or high-protein diets to get lean and mean. I like to eat by this mantra “greens and proteins”. Greens... Read more »
