I recently attended the T-Tapp Retreat (and I will report more on that later) but I was knocked out not only by the inch loss many of these women experienced but by their confidence. During our introductions, one attendee who lost 100 lbs. posed with her head held high and exclaimed, "I look good". Isn't that what we all want?
Toy stores sell Malibu Barbie, Holiday Sparkle Barbie, Palm Beach Coral Barbie, etc. etc. but there is no Plus Size Barbie at least not yet. In fact Barbie's waist is reportedly about the same size as her head. Now I am not a plus size person but I really want to live in a world supportive of healthy body types. Imagine if we lived in a world where we were supported from an early age to just be our best selves. What if media was filled with smiling faces of beautiful people of all size? If confidence came in a pill I would of have taken it. Its not easy building self esteem. I have come to the realization that I am a guest in this body for a number of years so I'm going to really enjoy it, care for it and love it as much as I can. Confidence and happiness don't always co-exist in a size 0 body.
Speaking of body confidence, my post about grey hair has been really well received. I was doing more research and stumbled upon Going Gray Looking Great. Today on the Nake Berkus show Nate is covering "Gray" as a hot fashion and decorating trend and Diana Lewis Jewell (author of the book Going Gray, Looking Great and website founder) Cindy Joseph, and Deidre Michael will be there in support of silver hair. Chicagoans can watch Nate Berkus on NBC's Channel 5 at 2:00 pm.
