As National Bike Month shifts into high gear, there is no shortage of cycling events to kick off your riding season.
Bike to School Day, May 9th. As featured in yesterday's post, this is the first ever Bike to School Day and your participation is required to help make it a success. A great feature article appears online at Bicycling entitled "Why Johnny Can't Ride" regarding the drop in biking to school from 48% in 1969 to 13% today - it's a must-read for today's parents.
Cyclo Femme We Ride Day, May 13th. Celebrate women in cycling and join or organize your own Cyclo Femme We Ride Day this Mother's Day.
Bike to Work Week, May 14th - 18th. The weather's warm and if you really think about it, you can find a way to bike all or part of the way to work. Find tips from the League of American Bicyclists, as well as our own Active Transportation Alliance. I even have a few commuting tips of my own on Easy As Riding A Bike's Facebook fan page.
Ride of Silence, May 16th. As featured in a post earlier this week, the Ride of Silence honors victims of accidents while reminding motorists of our right to share the road. IMHO, every cyclist should participate in this moving event.
Bike to Work Day, May 18th. If you can't find a way to commute by bike every day of Bike to Work Week, focus on making it happen on Friday. If it's a casual day at the office, no one will notice your biking attire...
Bike The Drive, May 27th. Take advantage of the once-a-year opportunity to see Chicago's lakefront and skyline at just the right speed! Bike The Drive also benefits the great work of the Active Transportation Alliance - our voice for cycling in the Chicago area.

Keep riding and be safe!
