The great events of National Bike Month just keep coming!
Next week is Bike to Work Week while next Friday, May 18th, is the official National Bike to Work Day. We Chicagoans can celebrate twice with our own Bike to Work Week June 9th through 15th featuring the ATA's Bike Commuter Challenge.
You can also take the National Bike Challenge by signing up for Endomondo and the League of American Bicyclists' Get Up and Ride. If I haven't mentioned this before, this is an excellent way to record your mileage and your voice for future legislative action.
Sunday marks Cyclo Femme's We Ride Day. Check for the location of your nearest ride or consider organizing your own and help create a unified voice for women in cycling.
I'm going to be a little lazy and just link to the chainlink's event page for a complete listing of the many cycling events going on this weekend! Here's a summary by day:
Friday, May 11th - North Side Critical Mass.
Saturday, May 12th - Monsters of the Midway Criterium, Never Too Soon to Go Camping, Major Taylor Ride to the River, RBG-CHI May Community Ride, Advocate Hope Hospital Cycling for Hope, Tour of Near West Side, Urban Bike Adventure, and Bike Riding Folk Singer at the Roots Room.
Sunday, May 13th - Bike 45th Ward, Labor Ride, and Bike-In Movie.
Don't forget to check out Mike Bentley's Midwest Bike Rides page for more rides in and out of the immediate area.
Bicycling on TV. If you're a fan of professional bicycle racing or just someone who's wondered whether there are any races other than the Tour de France, tune in this weekend for exciting coverage! Cable TV's Universal Sports is broadcasting the Giro d'Italia - Italy's premiere Grand Tour - now through May 27th while NBC Sports is broadcasting all eight stages of the Tour of California - the US's premiere stage race - beginning this Sunday.
Keep riding and be safe!
