Sixty Second Cycling: Weekend Events

Here's what's happening in our area this weekend:

Saturday, April 21st:  Whole Foods Market Spring Green Bicycle Drive in Hinsdale (8am - 12pm)Bring in your old bike, bike trailer, and / or bike tools and help provide much-needed transportation to individuals participating in programs through We Role Cycle Works and Growing Power Farms Chicago.

Saturday, April 21st: South Burb Brewpub Ride to the new Bulldog Brewery and Three Floyds Brewery (10am - 8pm).  50 miles at 15mph and beer - what else is there to say?

Saturday, April 21st: Tour of Rogers Park (11am - 4pm).  Chicago Neighborhood Bike Tours will take you on a 15-mile excursion through one of the cities oldest "villages" focusing on the unique architecture found there.

Saturday, April 21st: Major Taylor Trail Cleanup  (2pm - 4pm).  Lend a helping hand to the dedicated volunteers of TreeKeepers to preserve this important south side trail honoring one of the greatest bike racers of all time.

Sunday, April 22nd: Lincoln Park Criterium (8am - 6pm).  Come out and experience the exciting sport of bicycle racing!  Cheer on local riders of both sexes in various age and skill level groups as they race the neighborhood streets of Lincoln Park.

Sunday, April 22nd:  2012 Women's Cycling Clinic at Highland Park High School (9am - 3pm).  Higher Gear Bike Shop in Highland Park and Wilmette is hosting this all-day instructional event exclusively for women riders.  Topics include bike handling skills, how to ride in a group / paceline, bike maintenance essentials, and staying injury free on and off the bike.  The $75 includes lunch, a Peace Cord bracelet, donation to the Highland Park High School Cycling Club, and a goodie bag.

Sunday, April 22nd: 4th Annual Lope on to Lombard to Loll among the Lilacs(10am - 2pm).  For fans of fragrant flowers and sensational cycling scenery (not to mention overused alliteration), the Lope/Lombard/Loll/Lilacs ride takes you along the Prairie Path and Great Western Trail from Forest Park to Lombard to the Midwest's Premier Floral Display.
