Jill vs. the Chevrolet Cruze ... again

Those of you who follow me know that I’ve had an ongoing battle with the Chevrolet Cruze and my fuel economy. So, when I ended up in a low-mileage 2013 Chevrolet Cruze as a rental car, I figured I’d see if I could do any better this time. And I encouraged my tweeps to make... Read more »

How can a turbo engine be more fuel efficient?

A few weeks ago, I entered into a discussion with a couple of co-workers about the turbocharged engine in the Chevrolet Cruze Eco. When I put the words “turbocharged” and “fuel-efficient” in the same sentence, they pounced on me, sure that I was incorrect in with my facts. Not having ready access to the Internet,... Read more »

So whadahyawannaknow? 2011 Chevrolet Cruze Eco

I recently drove the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze Eco model with the 6-speed manual transmission. Overall, it was a great test week, and I thoroughly enjoyed the 1.4-liter turbocharged engine as well as the MT. Cruze, the Eco model specifically, is quickly becoming Chevrolet’s shining star with an estimated 42 mpg on the highway and attractive... Read more »

Today's Rant: Disappointing MPGs in the Chevrolet Cruze

I had such high hopes for the Chevrolet Cruze. But I suppose that’s when you get let down. The test car, a Cruze LTZ model, came equipped with a 1.4-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers 138 horsepower. Fuel economy estimates on the all-new compact car ring in at 24 mpg in the city and very... Read more »

Today's Rave: Chevrolet Cruze interior

When I slid behind the wheel of the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze, I could have sworn I was inside a much more expensive car. A lot of that has to do with the incredible interior. And we’re talking about a car with a base price of $16,995. Even without navigation, the wide audio screen, brushed silver... Read more »

2011 automotive watch list

For 2011 VW's lifeblood gets a major overhaul. The all-new Jetta will come to the U.S. with four different engine options, including a 2.0-liter TDI clean diesel engine, which delivers 140 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. Gasoline engines include the 2.0-liter (115 horsepower), 2.5 (170 horsepower) and the 2.0-liter TSI (200 horsepower). In addition to a new look, this compact car gets a little bigger for 2011, adding 3.5 inches in overall length, which translates into best-in-class rear legroom. I like VW for it's affordable German engineering, and this new Jetta comes through with a base price of around $16K.
2011 Nissan LEAF With the economy recovering, 2011 looks to be a much better year. Especially for the auto industry. Sales are starting to pick up, and you’ll notice a certain panache in the new vehicles heading our way. There are several that have caught my eye already, so I figured I’d give you a... Read more »
