2013 Cadillac ATS: CUE welcome

You know when you go to the movie theatre and before the show starts they do that surround-sound test? The CUE welcome in the 2013 Cadillac ATS is kind of like that. Only in a closed space, it's kind of a shock to the system. The first time I got in the ATS and shut the door, I nearly peed my pants when the surround-sound kicked in. I know I let out a startled gasp. OK. It was more like a blood curdling scream. But at least you couldn't hear it over the blast of sound. Because I want to share the love, I took a video of the welcome sound. You won't quite get the full effect, but you should get the general idea. At the time of publishing this post, I hadn't figured out how to turn the volume down ... or off. Off might be better.

You be the judge.

  • Didn't convey the full effect.

However, I figure that unless it is the burglar alarm, the car shouldn't scare the p--- out of the driver. Between this and the Subaru, cars are getting too obnoxious. Next Dodge will put a working skull of Geoff Peterson on the dash.

  • Reminiscent of the "Turbine On" / "Turbine Off" sounds made by the Chevy Volt.

  • In reply to George Straton:

And now they say that noise has to be back-engineered into hybrids and electrics, which are sneaking up on and corralling pedestrians.
