Every once in awhile, I come across a car that I absolutely don't want to give back. I swapped into one such car yesterday: The Infiniti G37 IPL. Wow.
Introduced in 2011, the Infiniti Performance Line takes an already sporty lineup and makes it that much better. It is what M is to BMW, S is to Audi and F is to Lexus. And it is awesome. An overused word to be sure, but I don't know how else to describe it. From the first engine rumble, I was smitten.
Right now, the rear-wheel drive G37 is the only car in the Infiniti lineup to carry the IPL badge, and what that means is more aggressive styling, more horsepower, more torque and, all around, more fun. The sport-tuned suspension combined with the dual exhaust, give greater connection to the road as well as a nice little flip in the tummy with every acceleration. The 3.7-liter V-6 has been specially tuned to deliver 348 horsepower and 276 pound-feet of torque, that's an increase of 18 horsepower and 6 pound-feet of torque over the regular model.
Other standard features on the IPL model: performance brakes with 14-inch front rotors, 19-inch wheels, interior and exterior IPL badging, premium Infiniti Studio on Wheels Bose audio system and a short-throw 6-speed manual transmission. A 7-speed automatic transmission is also available, but will add about $2K to the price tag. Base price for the G37 IPL: $50,245.
This is going to be a great week. Of course, it would be better if the black ice left Chicago.
