I couldn't sleep last night. And it's not because I'll be running 26.2 miles during a 5-hour period in less than 2 days. It's because the Marathon Expo opens today at McCormick Place (2301 S. Martin Luther King Dr.).
And I love the Marathon Expo. Samples, free ice packs, clothing sales, pace tattoos. Oh, my.
This year, Expo attendees will also get their first up-close-and-personal look at the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta, as VW is using the Marathon as the chance to debut this all-new vehicle in Chicago.
In 2011, VW is celebrating its 15th year as the official automotive sponsor of the Chicago Marathon. In addition to the Volkswagen FanZone, VW is giving consumers a chance to win a 2-year lease as a part of The Great Jetta Giveaway. And, if you own a VW, be sure to drive it to the Expo and stop by the VW display. They are giving away free parking as well gear.
The "ultimate" FanZone will be on the course at mile 12 (Franklin & Wacker). It will provide a cheer zone for friends and family as well as some lively entertainment including performances by DJs Z-Trip, Show Business and Chris Masterson.
The Marathon Expo is open today (Friday) and tomorrow starting at 9 a.m. both days, and closing at 8 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively.
Good luck to all the runners. And maybe I'll see you on the course. Remember, I'll be the one in a White Sox hat and a smile.
