2015 Dodge Challenger R/T 5.7 Hemi - American Muscle Smokes Tires - Video Road Test

"Drive...He Says" says: nothing on the road comes close to rear-drive American muscle cars when it's time to "Burn Rubber." AKA "Lay a Patch."

It's the reason that Dodge brought out it's $60,000 707 horsepower Nuke, the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat this year.

How much "tire smoking" will about half the power and half the money of Hellcat deliver?

For the answer, there's the "run-of-the-mill" Dodge Challenger R/T Plus 5.7L Hemi, looking the fast slithering reptile in "Sublime Green."

Starting at $34,995, this year Dodge offers the option of a silky 8-speed automatic transmission teamed to an OHV Hemi V8 churning an conservatively rated 400 pound-feet of torque. So equipped, it's the only Hemi V8 version to beat the federal "Gas Guzzler" tax.

The Dodge Challenger is actually "position kind" to average-sized grown-ups venturing into the hind seats. Even fitted with 20" wheels, the fully independent suspension soaks-up road ruts. The exhaust rumble is mellow enough not to wrack nerves over the interstate. Add the new interior make-over with smooth perforated leathers, carbon fiber trim, and high-tech visual graphics and you have the "Civilized Pony Car."

When it comes to the less meaningful but no less enjoyable objective of "Smoking Tires," Dodge Challenger's slight weight bias over the front wheels is advantageous.

To "Do the Deed":

1) Tap the Start Launch Control icon on the Performance Pages app screen; 2) Select Sport Mode for transmission; 3) De-activate traction control; 4)Place left foot firmly on the brake pedal; 5) Mash the accelerator;

Feel the 400 lb-ft erupt from the 5.7L OHV Hemi V-8 with the Goodyear F1 Supercar tires spinning furiously in place and creating a massive white smoke-screen.

6) Finally, release the brake pedal.

Get shoved back into the deep front buckets as the 2015 Dodge Challenger R/T Plus snaps off 5000+ rpm shifts and lays down long and even parallel patches of rubber onto the pavement.

Just admit it. Didn't the "burn-out" in something so outrageously colored, look so fiendishly fun?
