Thanks to a couple of recent snowfalls here in Chicago, an otherwise refined and perfectly driveable 2011 Volkswagen Jetta SEL lamentably wore out it's welcome at "Drive...He Said". The front drive, compact family sedan, which is plenty roomy and can handle a whole lotta' luggage, was strangely equipped with dedicated summer Michelin tires. Despite traction control a car that should have been a cinch in 5" snow events became a harrowing handful. (VW North America has since responded that the fitment of summer tires on our test Jetta was a snafu and that all cars sold to customers are fitted with all-season rubber.)
Just as our 2011 silver Volkswagen Jetta SEL was about to depart a red wine 2011 Scion TC arrived. Would the stars be aligned to deliver a more seasonable driving experience? I was grateful that the front-drive Scion TC personal sporty coupe was sensibly fitted with...voila....all-season M+S (as in Mud and Snow) tires. All of which reminded me of the inimitable Beatles' lyrics
"You say yes, I say no
You say stop, I say go, go, go
You say goodbye, I say hello
I say hello...."
