About the blogger of Divorce Chicago Style! Here is my story and I am sticking to it!
The Cook County [Illinois] Domestic Relations Division [where divorces are filed] has thousands of new cases filed each year. It is one of the largest family law systems in the nation.
After 12 years in the Domestic Relations Division in Cook County, I write this blog to share my experiences and inspire hope for others in divorce litigation. In a system where fewer than 5% of cases ever go to trial, I have had two trials [the first one lasted 19 days in length over the course of many months*; the second trial lasted 21 days], many different kinds of hearings, and attended or given at least a dozen depositions. I have tried mediation and negotiation as well. My former spouse has just filed an appeal for the second trial, so I am on the way to a second Illinois Appellate Court decsion!
The reasons for this saga are complicated. But as a result of this ongoing experience, I have accumulated a lot of information that could help other women [or men] going through a difficult divorce in Cook County. My goal is to offer readers solid information, education opportunities, insights, news, tips, and other sources, mostly focused on Cook County. Oh, and my opinions, along with hope and support!
What I say is not legal advice and should not be taken as such.
*Unlike criminal or some civil matters that are heard before a jury, divorce cases are heard before a judge. So a trial/hearing can take place over a long period of time. These trials may not run on consecutive days.
