New (Outside) Voices Next Week

Sick of a diet made up only of CPS, CTU-related, and BPI events and arguments?  Starting to think that City Hall and CTU are the are only two perspectives on what CPS should do, or are there only two sides to this argument to choose from?  You might want to check out this event next week (3.28.14 @ 9:30 am) downtown dubbed Club Ed and sponsored by  Ed Choice Illinois.  Featuring speakers like Trey Cobb, Kevin Chavous and Derrell Bradford, the event is described as "the first event in a series to bring education policy makers, civil rights and school leaders regularly together to share innovations in education, research and best practices in policy."

Interested in a diet of charter school backers from New Jersey and DFER members? Then these guys are for you!

  • In reply to Ed Dziedzic:

these guys go way the usual charter stuff, ed -- tax credits, vouchers, interdistrict transfers, etc.

Well, interdistrict transfers sounds interesting. I'd be interested in seeing how that idea flies at New Trier. Tax credits and vouchers are the same old shillelaghs, however. According to a recent Princeton study, vouchers are essentially educationally worthless.

  • Northwestern University's Dr. David Figlio would say there's plenty of data to back school choice. Bad school choice policy equals bad results. Great school choice policy equals great results.

Exactly which study are you referring to on his website? I did not see a single study there that challenges the results of the Princeton study. Please post a link to the actual study by this person that shows vouchers have any educational value.
