Computer Tablet Problems

Computer Tablet Problems

There's been a smattering of problems implementing tablet programs in other parts of the country. But what about in CPS, where iPads have been piloted in some schools and were promised to receiving schools this year?  I haven't really heard a peep, which usually means things are going ok.

Way back in Spring 2011, CPS announced that the pilot program was going well (CPS Gets Nod in iPad 2 Announcement). CSU was considering giving freshmen iPads even earlier (CSU Considers IPads for Freshmen). There was a big theft of iPads earlier this year. Rod and Ed Dziedzic, and displacedteach have discussed the pros and cons in comments.  Anything else?

The smattering of problems elsewhere include the recent suspension of the Amplify program in Guilford NC and snafus in LA.  Corvallis, OR, put its own iPad program on hold, as did a district in Texas. Closer to home, students in Indiana have also hacked their tablets.

I hope you are right that "no news is good news." This article, however, suggests that we should be careful about making schools technology rich but curriculum poor. Technology will not solve the problems in CPS, though it may help.
