CPS Gives, But Mostly Takes Away

850 teachers, staffers get pink slips at closing, ‘turnaround’ schools Sun Times: About 850 teachers and staffers at schools doomed to either close this month or to reboot their staffs were handed pink slips Friday afternoon, according to Chicago Public Schools.

CPS to lay off hundreds of teachers from closing schools Tribune: Chicago Public Schools said Friday that 663 employees at schools the district is closing, including teachers, teaching assistants and bus aides, don't qualify to follow students to their new schools and will be laid off.

CPS issues pink slips to over 800 employees WBEZ:  The numbers released by CPS today do not include administrators and do not count layoffs in other district schools that are also facing shrinking budgets.  CPS officials said, on average, about 60 percent of teachers who lose their positions at one school, but reapply at others get rehired somewhere else in the system.

CPS announces school closing layoffs Catalyst: According to CPS, 1,005 teachers worked in the closing schools. Of those, 420 were laid off on Friday.  The 420 were either probationary teachers or teachers with satisfactory or unsatisfactory performance reviews.
