Labor Day Poll Numbers

Here's the latest results from a Gallup poll on public attitudes towards organized labor -- accurate or not, dependent on recent attacks on unions in recent years (and some would say the abandonment of the Democratic party).  "In this latest poll, 74 percent of self-identified Democrats, 48 percent of independents, and 31 percent of Republicans say they approve of unions."

Mayor Rahm Emanuel a “liar and a bully." “Whenever our students perform well on tests, [Chicago Public School] moves the bar higher, tells them they are failures and blames their teachers. Now they want to privatize public education and further disrupt our neighborhoods. We’ve seen public housing shut down, public health clinics, public libraries and now public schools. There is an attack on public institutions, many of which serve low-income and working-class families.”

rahm was slapped down again by obama and told to fix mess he created in Chicago rather than spend time partying at dnc. Emanuel is still set to speak at the convention on Tuesday night, but he won't be around on Thursday when his former boss speaks. Instead, he'll be obliging the Obama campaign's request for him to host a watch party for campaign headquarters staff in Chicago. http://www.politico.com/politico44/2012/09/rahm-emanuel-wont-spend-much-time-at-dnc-134221.html

DNC to Emanuel: “Stay out of Charlotte!”

  • In reply to district299reader:

Who wouldn't encourage a Democratic mayor to stay home and resolve issues in their city rather than be away during times of turmoil? Seems to me like a pretty logical idea which does not necessarily reflect poorly on him.

If the party were to ask him to be in Charlotte throughout the week, bloggers would blast him for not being involved & ignoring problems at home. When he plays a small role and they provide him with duties at home, he is blasted as not being wanted?

    So which way is it?

  • In reply to district299reader:

Yes, you are so right!! Just ignore the prime time television spot tonight.

  • When it comes down to examining numbers, has anyone examined the public perception versus reality of the situation. With the extensive backing of private funding, Rahm has completely swayed public opinion on the matter. But of course, the most popular writers of "news" in this city appeal to the public emotions just as radio ads about greedy teachers do leaving most people to follow the loudest voice they hear.
