Rangel At City Club

Juan Rangel says it was a sold-out crowd for his City Club speech yesterday morning, and has the picture to prove it (on Facebook).  Rangel's pull quote? "The real question to all of us is whether we have the will and the appetite for an even more aggressive push toward real systemic, structural, far-reaching and long lasting reforms in public education."  The Reader's Mick Dumke was there, and reports that the speech was much more strident than last year's version (Rangel does a damn good Chris Christie impression): "When he appeared before the professional group again on Wednesday, it was to ask for their support in a war with "totally irresponsible and reckless" teachers unions." Dumke fact checks some of Rangel's claims about charter performance, and credits Rangel for being clear about his anger and frustration towards the school system and teachers unions.  If anyone has video or audio of the speech, let me know.

  • "credits Rangel for being clear about his anger and frustration towards the school system and teachers unions."

We could also credit the late Osama bin Laden for being clear about his frustration with the United States. Anger, once regarded as a deadly sin, is now regarded as a virtue as long the angry person tacks on a tearful, obligatory "for the sake of the children" at the end.
