8 Percent Not Enough?

Today's news is all about the vote to set a strike date for September 10, who's to blame for this sorry state of affairs (Rahm more than Brizard, I'd argue), and what if anything CTU will be able to wring out of CPS beyond the 8 percent that's already been proposed (and rejected as insufficient) .  What do you think?  Let us know...

Strike Notice Reactions

Today's news is mostly about various reactions to the news that CTU has filed notice of its intention to strike -- which means it could call a strike as soon as September 10.  WBEZ highlights that the notice is part of a negotiating strategy, not necessarily a desire to actually do it.  Teachers, parents, CPS officials all weigh in on what they think about the possibility. The Sun Times editorial page worries about the impact on public support for education. What's your reaction to this turn of events and the possibility of a strike?  What do you think your neighbors' reactions will be...

Rangel At City Club

Juan Rangel says it was a sold-out crowd for his City Club speech yesterday morning, and has the picture to prove it (on Facebook).  Rangel’s pull quote? “The real question to all of us is whether we have the will and the appetite for an even more aggressive push toward real systemic, structural, far-reaching and... Who's Going To Charlotte?

Nothing important will probably happen at the conventions this week or next, but some of the education events include the StudentsFirst screenings, which this American Thinker blogger thinks are notable because they're being done at both conventions (School Reformer Plays Both Sides), two Lumina Foundation panels (The College Advantage) Tuesday and then again next Tuesday.  I'll check and see what kind of a delegation CTU is sending.  Rahm has already said he's not sure he's going....

Rahm To The Rescue?

Welcome back.  Today's news includes lots of violence, lots of interesting opinions (about whether CTU has to strike, whether Emanuel can help resolve things, and how it's going to feel if there's a strike and charter schools are still open). CPSobsessed is running a teacher appreciation contest of sorts. Lots more to come.  Get going...

Strike? No Strike.

I still think there won't be a strike, but I know that CTU folks (and media types trying to fill slow news cycles) have to make it seem like there might be up to the very last minute and I'm fine with that.  I've also been wrong about many things many times before, so there's that. Strike!  Just checking. Today's news includes some strike update stuff (see also the Jackson Potter interview from WTTW last night below), plus a few other things.  ...
