4th Of July Observed All Week

I don't know what you're doing with the midweek holiday but I'm shutting things down with the possible exception of some Twittering (@district299).  Have a great rest of the week.  Stay cool.

  • Thank you teachers for digging your graves: Thanks to all elementary school teachers for making our initial REACH roster verification effort so successful! Over the course of three weeks, 13,784 teachers across 471 schools verified their class rosters as part of this first-year Roster Verification pilot. Over 99.9% of teachers tasked with verifying rosters participated in the process, with 99.75% verifying all rosters. This is the most impressive turn out that the Battelle for Kids (BFK) has experienced in their work with other large districts across the country!
Right? Charters are excluded of course--

  • In reply to district299reader:

I'm a clinician so have no idea what REACH is.
Would someone please explain it ...
... and the "digging your graves" comment?

  • In reply to PDec:

REACH is the acronym for new teacher evaluation system in CPS in which we will all be held accountable for "student growth."

Sadly, this applies to clinicians as well.

What? You didn't receive two days of PD on this at the end of the school year? We didn't at our school either. But we will still all be subject to this crazy new system anyway.

Verification has to do with going online to acknowledge which students you are responsible for so that they can tie those scores to your evaluation. And they have outsourced this part of the process to a company called Battelle For Kids. We had to do a sort of dry run in late May/early June. I don't teach a "core" subject, but yes, I had to do it too.

  • We had to complete our verification or face disciplinary action. One teacher who had been absent was written up b/c she didn't get it done by the principal's deadline even though CPS had a later deadline.

  • 3 teens among 12 hurt in shootings since Friday night

  • In reply to district299reader:

Why do people keep posting stories of shootings?
Of course I understand they probably attend a CPS school, but what are we supposed to do with this information?

New CPS budget is out. You can see what is budgeted specifically for your school. This article explains.

  • 20 wounded in weekend violence; McCarthy cites progress in crime fight!

  • I just can't see the improvement McCarthy speaks of. This is another example of making the data work in your favor but literally continuing to fail. JC and McCarthy both speak well and can BS their way out of a question, but the truth is their impact on all things is minimal. The problems in each organization speaks for themselves. The fact is under the mayors watch violence has risen, the CTU agreement has been breached and we're on the brink of a strike. His cabinet in all city agencies has many outsiders but does not reflect the city's racially diverse population. Promoting from the ranks would've left the city in better shape.

Complete joke! All these homicide/shot-and-injured reports and McCarthy calls it progress!? Progress at what? Thinning the herd? Dropping enrollment?, or, as McCarthy put it, “A decrease in the increase” Does John Kupper write McCarthy’s speeches, too?

But can you really blame McCarthy - Emanuel and Cawley steal $70 mil from CPS to CPD and McCarthy still can’t buy extra street cops! (where did the money really go? To pay Sun-Times, Tribune ‘reporters’ to look the other way? Or to Spend Matters Group “boutique advisory firm” to spin their BS?) And what does McCarthy get for $70 mil? $1 mil worth of Ceasefire!?

Emanuel has turned the city into a shooting gallery. His ‘aim’ must be to REACH a homicide record of 971. The little sociopath knows what he is doing…he just doesn’t care.

His Flagged Business Initiative should start at City Hall and end at AUSL and UNO.
