Vitale is completely corrupt – he admits that CPS begins ‘scholastic starvation’ five to ten years prior to turnaround – this is absolutely sick, systematically draining schools for a decade and not one single American should tolerate it, and then, after ten years, about 3,650 days, the Board just can’t wait one more single day to give children a ‘world class education’…What? !

  • Jackson: "...but then he scores a basket, even though he's not a wolf anymore."

Lewis: "No, I don't think I have seen Teen Wolf."

    I don't know what they are saying, however this what they were saying a few months ago;
Below is a copy of an email that was sent erroneously. Notice who the e-mail was sent to - NOW All of a sudden CTU is interested in Jesse Jackson. Notice the attack on me at the end for my organizing efforts at PUSH !

This is outrageous David. Are you out of your mind?

The PUSH meeting is for DISPLACED TEACHERS. This is not a publicity stunt. Teachers will be featured there ad their stories will be told. NO ONE ELSE IS WELCOME. The CTU has a space to host anything they want. As far as Rosita Chatonda
getting some attention or Jesse Jackson, we are in our community minding our own business. Who do you think you are?

I understand the problems with the meetings for displaced teachers at Operation PUSH -- that's why I have written to you guys before posting anything in public -- but we NEED TO RESPOND IN PUBLIC NOW!

    Reasons:
-CBS is apparently sending a camera crew from New York to interview displaced teachers at Operation PUSH tomorrow (Tuesday)
about how the Board's actions affected them. This should be a great opportunity for CTU which we shouldn't ignore
simply because Rosita Chatonda and Rev. Jesse Jackson might get some airtime. We should have a substantial presence there!
Let's have some CTU officers attend -- the reporters are far more likely to air comments from Karen in person than "talking points" that Karen gave to Patricia.

-Krzys Rudzinski is responding to "Dazed & Confused" and any other displaced teachers who post on CPS First Class. He is asking them to call him or email him off-list so he can "help" them, and in earlier posts indicated that this "help" might include filing lawsuits against CTU.

-Other caucuses besides CORE are developing campaigns saying we aren't doing enough. I think the problem is actually that we aren't doing enough TELLING EVERYBODY about all the things we are doing. That means we must provide more of our support for displaced teachers IN PUBLIC. So what if only 40 displaced teachers showed up at CTU's last displaced teacher meeting? Hold more meetings! We should not allow the perception that Rosita and Operation PUSH are doing more than the union. And while I understand the need to distance ourselves from Rosita so we won't get blamed if she makes outrageous statements -- let's NOT make a big deal about how the Operation PUSH meetings are NOT part of CTU, at least not until we can offer an alternative.

    MOST IMPORTANT:
CREATE WAYS TO GET DISPLACED TEACHERS TO TURN TO THE UNION FIRST! Everybody like "Dazed & Confused" shouldn't need to post a plea for help on First Class -- they should already KNOW that the union is ready to help them.
    Suggestions:

    - On the CTU website, put a prominent button on the home page that says something like:
"Lost your job? Worried that you might? Click here for info on steps displaced teachers should take immediately."

    - Put similar information into a blast email.

    - Send out blast email updates everytime we have news that might interest displaced teachers.

    - Make sure these emails have links to make it easier to contact appropriate staff members and/or volunteer committees at the union.

    - Hold regular meetings for displaced teachers. Publicize them widely.

    - Every day, send out at least one news release about how the union is helping an individual teacher. George should be able to publish at least some of them in Substance, and there are some other friendly media who might use them.

Just some ideas -- let me know if I can help implement any of them, or others.
    -David

  • Lewis: Rev. Jackson, I'm sure you can help us with our image problem. I can't think of a more relevant person to model responsibility, ethics and integrity than yourself.

Jackson: Uhh, Karen the camera is behind you. You always have to know where the camera is.

I worked with both of these people and I have the utmost respect for Reverend Jackson. He reached out to the Displaced Teachers when the CTU refused. Even though the current CTU tried to squash our organizing attempts to get justice for Displaced Teachers and have done everything they can to destroy our coalition with PUSH, we are still welcome there and meet every Tuesday. I've never had to pay one penny to hold meetings at PUSH and have been meeting there for four years. I am so happy that Reverend Jackson has come forward at this time. We have been working on this initiative long before I met Karen Lewis. even though the CTU has reluctantly gotten involved with this campaign and will try to take ALL the credit for the hard work we've done, it's O.K. if it helps teachers.

  • I don't know about either Rev. Jackson or Ms. Lewis, but I do know as a daily listener of WVON radio, that Jonathan Jackson, who is a regular guest on that station, has been supporting displaced teachers and fighting school closings and turnarounds for years. It is a real pleasure to listen to him discuss education issues in an intelligent, compassionate, and well-informed manner. I wish he could be put out in front, as this quiet man seems to have a better grasp of the situation than anyone I have heard to date. Keep talking Mr. Jackson -- I'm listening and thank you for your support.

You are right about Jonathan Jackson. We have been working with Jonathan for several years before the CTU did anything to help displaced teachers. CAUSE had been meeting at PUSH for a year when Jonathan started working with us. He was literally the wind beneath our wings and brought the plight of displaced teachers into the limelight. He has attended many of our PUSH Forums and also held many of his own at PUSH. I am so happy for the help that Reverend Jackson and Jonathan have given us.

  • The CTU still does nothing for displaced teachers

    In reply to district299reader:

The CTU finally decided that they would have a DISPLACED TEACHER Committee after I was no longer with the CTU. They literally did everything in their power to strip the forum of members and take them to the CTU for monthly meetings. (SEE E_MAIL ABOVE) These meetings were held by the CTU. Many teachers felt that they were being used and that the $100.00 that they had to pay was only to make sure that the CTU kept them under their control. The funny thing is that the Displaced Teacher Forum was created to have a place where teachers who had no union voice or were no longer union members to come together and support each other. Heaven forbid that non union teachers would have the sense to organize without the unions interference! I actually requested that were have a membership for Displaced Teachers but I thought it would be a full nmembership with voting rights. Looks like that's not the case! ( The CTU would never admitt that it was my idea even though they've stolen most of my initiatives . That's O.K. because I have plenty ideas and don't mind sharing them with people who have none) SMILE!
When you think about it, why would the union have membership for displaced teachers that included voting in union elctions? Well the angry teachers may vote them out of office.

  • Jesse Jackson: You mean to tell me that JC never played basketball in college or even high school?

Karen Lewis: Hmmph. Yes, the nerve of Rahm to hire someone to lead our schools without any basketball experience.

Jesse Jackson: I'm with you on this one. We'll definitely have to get the Justice Department involved now.

Karen Lewis - Reverend Jackson, Why have you been letting those Displaced Teachers meet at PUSH for years. Don't you know that they are an embarrassment to the CTU?

Jesse Jackson: Well Karen they came to me and said they needed help and the CTU wasn't helping them.

Karen: Well we've got to take over that forum from that Rosita Chatonda she meets at your place. She might get something started that could bring some attention to the 4,000 teachers who lost their jobs under my administration. Oh heaven forbid if these teachers find out that last year Black teachers dropped 33% under my administration an I did nothing about it. Not to mention the total number of teachers terminated last year was 4,000.

Jesse Jackson: Karen I heard that teachers are saying that you signed a bill called Senate Bill 7 and it makes it easier to fire tenured teachers now. Is that True?

Karen: Oh my God! How did you find out about that! I thought it was it was top secret.

Jesse Jackson: Karen we may have to rethink this who thing. Maybe the teachers should file charges against the CTU for failure to defend it's members.

Karen Lewis: I always feared this would happen, think about it that way, you've got a point. I'd better do a Senate Bill 7 workshop before everyone finds out what really happened to their collective bargaining rights. Good bye , gotta get going to set up the workshop. .
