Residency: The Case For Jailing Emanuel

Residency: The Case For Jailing Emanuel

Teachers get fired for claiming to live in the city when they don't.  Parents can be convicted as felons and jailed for claiming that their children live in one school district rather than another (really, it's true -- happened in Ohio last week).  So if the court finds that Emanuel isn't a resident as he claims then he should stand trial for making a false claim and go to jail (we can't fire him since he doesn't have a job).

  • Enrolling one's children in a school system that one is not a resident of is theft from the school district tax payers, at least in IL where the local district pays the largest part of the freight. It would not be as clear of a case in a state where the state pays the bulk of the freight for schools.

Emanuel's case is complicated though, because he has been determined to be a resident for voting, just not for running for office.

  • I heard that Emmanuel left the CTU endorsement meeting and refused to answer questions--just walked out. That should give a clue as to the kind of mayor he will be.

  • Or a quitter like Sarah Palin?

  • So glad we have "Really?" here to moderate discussions and let us all know when opinions have become tiresome. In fact, I'm not particularly interested in this thread or even in the mayoral election, but people like "Really?" can keep me entertained forever. Thanks!

  • dial it back, folks -- personal attacks and inflammatory language will get the discussion closed down and get you banned.
