Handful Of CPS Students Get "Safety Transfers"

What do you think about the news that 17 students have applied for the new "safety transfers" already this year -- and 12 have been approved?  Should there be more of these, or do they just create headaches?

  • Okay, the reason the word "ordered" appears in quotation marks is because the City Council has no authority to order the Chicago Public Schools to do anything.

The only body that can "order" CPS to do anything is the Board of Education.

Everyone on the council knows this. It was simply political posturing. You don't see the City Council "ordering" that TIF money be returned to CPS in order to build a library at Whittier and all the other schools that don't have one.
