Sure enough, Waiting For Superman has a Chicago web page (here) with a handful of schools listed as "beating the odds" --

Namaste Charter School

We talk about Urban prep all the time so this time let's bash on the teachers, parents, and students of KIPP, Decatur, Bell, and Namaste.  Who's going to start the trash-talking (or tell us something interesting)?

  • What about Rickover Naval Academy? We are are going to hit 20 average on the ACT this year. In six years, Rickover has become one of the top 10 schools in CPS. Over 80% of our kids are minorities and receive free or reduced lunch, so we have a pretty typical population.

  • When I went to the link provided and clicked on one of the "great schools" icons, it took me to Quigley Seminary. Quigley closed in 2007.

  • This is a good question, but a better question would be, Do you hate your readers? My guess is no, but he sure has a lot of contempt for public education. Could this be because he attended Francis Parker (as referenced in a recent blog)? Is that the Francis Parker of Chicago? I called there once to get info for my son, but the $25,000 price tag deterred me from asking about admissions requirements -- which also, I am sure, would have prevented my special needs child from enrolling.
I enjoy the posters here, but I think I will turn my attention exclusively to Catalyst now.
