Media: The Perils Of Nonprofit Journalism

You think for-profit "corporate" journalism is flawed?  I'd agree.  But perhaps tax status isn't the real issue.  As Curtis Black documents in a  new Huffington Post column (here), nonprofit (foundation-funded) journalism has challenges, too. First, the Columbia Journalism Review posted a piece about the struggles the Chicago News Cooperative has experienced disclosing its conflicts and reporting Chicago news in a balanced way for the New York Times (here).  Then someone from the CNC fired back, trying to debunk the arguments. A large part of the debate has to do with CNC/NYT's coverage of school turnarounds, and the role CNC board member Mike Koldyke plays.  Remember?
