No time to get to a computer and check online for news during the day?  No fancy cell phone with web access?  No problem.  Here's how to get brief text updates on your cell phone so you know what's going on as soon as it's going on.  You can do it all from your phone and it's pretty easy to get started even if you're not a big technology person.   Best of all, it shouldn't cost you anything extra if you already have a data plan on your cell phone(be sure to check).  How to get started?  First, text the word START to 40404.  Twitter will respond and ask you if you want to sign up.  Then, text the word SIGNUP and send.  The third step is to pick a username and a password -- Twitter will text you the instructions to follow, and tell you if your username is already taken.  Last but not least, sign up for District 299 by sending FOLLOW DISTRICT299 to 40404.  You'll get a confirmation and then should receive blog post updates and real-time Twitter updates via text. Questions?  Comments?  Think your kids/students might like to sign up?  All ideas welcome.
