  • Dear Mr.Huberman; March 30, 2010

We, the LSC candidates, parents and community of Little Village Academy grammar school have written several letters to complain about the election irregularities conducted by Principal Elsa Carmona. Our concerns were forwarded in writing to Area 10 CAO Mrs. Isabel Mesa-Collins, the CPS Law Department, Mr. Miguel Rodriguez and the Office of Local School Council Relations, Mr. Jose Alvarez. We have been ignored and disrespected for simply asking that someone from downtown attend the LSC meetings and monitor all actions during this election process.

Ms. Carmona created confusion because she refused to follow the established guidelines detailing when an LSC candidates forum is to be held at the school. After repeated telephone calls and complaints initiated from several candidates, the principal cancelled the LSC candidate forum and moved it to March 25, 2010. Unfortunately, Mrs. Carmona invited a Mr. Michael G. Melendez, Senior Compliance Facilitator from the Office of LSC Relations. They secretly met before the forum to limit the only opportunity allowed by CPS during this campaign where candidates are allowed to address voters and permit them to ask questions of the candidates and their platforms. We were denied this full opportunity to participate in this segment of the election process by your staff.

At the LSC candidate forum, Principal Carmona passed out an agenda and Mr. Melendez dictated it aloud to us. They allowed the current LSC Chair to preside over the LSC candidate
