What If the CPS Board Was Elected?

Interesting to see how LA Mayor Villagairosa wants to do the mayoral control thing:

L.A. Mayor Details Plan for Schools "Villaraigosa
would keep an elected board -- but in a lesser role -- and hold the
power to appoint superintendent and other top educators." (LA Times via EducationNews.org)

Of course, as many have noted, Chicago didn't have an elected board even before 1995, and elected officials aren't really very independent anyway.
