Education Week has been on a big kick about how Chicago is a hotbed of "venture philanthropy" -- a more performance-oriented kind of funding that focuses on results and is in general more businessy not just good-hearted.
Some people love it, some people hate it, and some -- like me -- aren't sure that it's all that different from regular old philanthropy. Everyone agrees that it has brought a new wave of money into public schools that might not otherwise have been available. For good or ill, well that's another matter.
Here's the article that ran last week ("Rolling Up Their
Sleeves"). There's also an online discussion TODAY at noon Chicago time where you can talk (email) with folks from CPEF and RSF (here).
