A 16-year-old boy was ordered held in Cook County Juvenile Detention
Center Monday after being accused of accidentally shooting his friend,
a Fenger Academy student, while playing with a gun on Chicago's Far
South Side over the weekend.
Schools across Illinois, concerned
about an uptick in violence, are practicing emergency lockdowns.
The lockdowns are meant to prepare children for an episode of
violence in their schools.
On May 1, for the first time in her life, special education teacher
Erika Prince treated herself to a new car -- a snazzy 2008
cranberry-colored Dodge Charger.
Prince was active in many school activities and clubs, including
hip-hop dance and the honor society, plus her church, Salem Baptist.
Her daughter, Malani, a 4th grader at Dixon, was on the honor roll,
