Teacher accused of racial slurs placed on leave

A
charter school teacher who students said made slurs against her Mexican
students was placed on administrative leave Wednesday pending an
investigation, officials said.

Schools' own study accents the positive

Four
years ago, Kidany Pena was flunking out of school, spending more time
with his buddies than going to class. Now a senior at Kelvyn Park High,
Pena is on the student council, taking honors courses and planning to
attend North Park University this fall on a scholarship.

CPS study paints rosier picture on grads
Despite a recent study exposing dismal college graduation rates for
Chicago Public Schools students, a new CPS analysis has found that more
of its college-bound grads went to four-year schools last year than the
year before.
