Virtual school may open in Illinois Tribune

Illinois'
first virtual public elementary school is preparing to open this fall
to serve up to 600 Chicago students willing to spend their grade school
years in a cyberspace classroom.

construction company president and longtime Democratic Party fundraiser
has been charged in federal court with bribing a former Chicago Public
Schools official to get millions of dollars in contracting work.

Mayor Richard M. Daley announced
Tuesday the largest increase of test scores for students in the Chicago
Public Schools system since he took over the district more than 10
years ago.
