I'm happy to pass along word of Brian Schultz’s relatively new book, Spectacular Things Happen Along the Way.
In it, Schultz describes how his 5thgrade class at Byrd Academy tried to get a new, long-promised building for their classmates.
The book has been positively reviewed in The Huffington Post, by Jonathan Kozol, and many others. The effort, called Project Citizen, has been covered extensively in the media over the years.
The effort didn't succeed in a narrow sense, but is credited as a major contributor to the successes of the participating students. Schultz is a teacher at Northeastern and a former CPS teacher.
