School Funding Events

The folks at A+ are back at it again with a series of events of the school funding problem in Illinois. They start this week and go through much of October. Take a look below to see if there's an event in your area.

Question: What if any connection is there between A+ and the Meeks effort? Also, what is going to happen to A+ if and when this "Illinois Advance" outfit starts working the same issues?

Mark your calendar for A+ Illinois' Community Roundtables

believe Illinois has a school funding and quality crisis? Yesterday,

the Illinois State Board of Education released its 2008 standardized

test results: Only fifty-three percent of eleventh graders met or

exceeded math and reading standards, and 51% met or exceeded science

standards. That means nearly half of all high school students in Illinois failed to meet basic standards. Nearly half of all high school juniors lack the skills needed to succeed in college or the skilled jobs of the global economy.

has never been a more urgent time to focus out the solutions

that will get our schools—and our state—back on track. To that end, A+

Illinois will be holding a series of Community Roundtables around the

state in the coming weeks, with seven

additional roundtables to be scheduled later in the fall. We want to

hear from you—community leaders, parents and educators—about what you

want to see in a school quality and funding reform package. The goal is

simple: to build consensus around the issues and ideas that matter

most. Contact the organizer in your area to RSVP.

addition, the Illinois House of Representatives’ Education Committee

will be holding a series of community hearings on school funding. Join

A+ Illinois staff and volunteers to testify on the urgent need for

school quality and funding reform in Illinois. Contact us at for details and sample testimony.
